Communication can be broken down into two categories namely visual and non-verbal methods of communication. Visual methods are the visual forms of communication including language, symbols, gestures, facial expressions, speech patterns, and even body language. Non-verbal methods are more subtle forms of communication that are usually not detected. Examples of these include body language such as the subtle shift in posture and body movements that is done by some people when they are feeling uncomfortable, as well as subtle sounds that may be hidden behind closed mouths, hands, or even noises that are produced in the ear that are not perceived by others. These are some examples of non-verbal communication.
The first form of communication is visual communication that involves words and other forms of visual communication such as photos, movies, books, television programs, and so on. Visual communication allows people to express their thoughts and ideas through visual signals or pictures. In a very basic way, we all communicate using these visual means. Visual communication is used for a variety of purposes including communication among friends and family, for marketing, sales and advertising, and for self-expression.
The second category of communication is verbal communication. Verbal communication involves communication using spoken words. There are two main types of verbal communication; verbal and non-verbal. Verbal communication is generally used by people in social situations in a casual and non-judgmental manner. Verbal communication is also used in business and professional settings to express opinions and to convey ideas to other people.
Non-verbal communication is more subtle than verbal communication. It is more often used to communicate emotions or feelings. Emotions include anger, sadness, fear, joy, anger, surprise, happiness, disgust, disappointment, happiness, disappointment, confusion, and sadness are just a few of them. Some examples of non-verbal communication are smiles, gestures, eye contact, hand gestures, and facial expressions, body language, and even music. {among other visual and non-verbal messages. It is used in various situations for a variety of reasons.
The next category of communication is mixed form of communication. Mixed form of communication refers to those forms of communication that use both verbal and non-verbal forms of communication to convey a message or idea.

As I mentioned previously, there are two types of communication. Visual and non-verbal. It is best to understand how you are communicating when you speak and communicate, as opposed to reading between the lines. If you can understand this then you will know the type of communication you are doing, rather than reading between the lines.
To better understand your communication process, you may want to consider what type of communication you are doing and then start narrowing down your communication process based on that. A few examples of communication that falls into this category are the following: talking to friends and family, advertising, selling products, selling a service, and communicating with customers, coworkers, and others. Each of these communication forms has many variations in the way they are used and communicated with.
